Is anything normal?

I wanna blog about something “normal” — not about another giveaway or group of giveaways… even though there are several about which I “need” to blog.

What is normal?  I just looked it up in several on-line dictionaries and was surprised to see that one of its definitions is “perpendicular.”  In fact, Merriam-Webster lists “perpendicular” as the first definition for normal.  Doesn’t it seem ironic how abnormal that is?  I would think that the first definition would be more like how the Free Dictionary defines it…

Conforming with, adhering to, or constituting a norm, standard, pattern, level, or type; typical

Or, like Dictionary.com defines it…

conforming to the standard or the common type; usual; not abnormal; regular; natural.

Or, as Your Dictionary defines it…

conforming with or constituting an accepted standard, model, or pattern

Oh Merriam-Webster gets around to defining it in that manner, but not until the second listed definition.  What’s up with that?  Why would they put “perpendicular” as the number one definition of “normal”?  Perhaps I’m looking at a mathematical version of their dictionary?

Well, so much for my “normal” blogging experience.  You never know what you’ll find…

As Jodie Foster apparently said, “Normal is not something to aspire to, it’s something to get away from.”
